My DH is in talks re: job in Charlotte (airport area of town).
What area would you suggest we house hunt, based on these desires?
#1) Schools are a big concern - 3 kids...
#2) spacious house (again, 3 kids)...would love a basement
#3) price around 300k, would love an area with swim / tennis
#4) probably dreaming, but would like a spacious lot (1/3 acre)
We have been told about living across the SC border...and I'm open to anything...just concerned about schools...
What area seems a good fit?
Thanks so much for your help!!

All things considered, I would say look at the town of Mint Hill, just east of the Charlotte city limits. The beltway, I485, runs right thru it and offers easy access back to the airport area of town, among other places. This is one of the few places in all of Charlotte where you can find larger home lots, some even half an acre. There are many beautiful neighborhoods there in your price range, many with basements (which is not easy to find everywhere). Also the elementary schools are very good. Since Mint Hill is an incorporated town they have a lower tax rate, their own mayor and police department - it is a great rural village.
Another suggestion is to look over the state line at Fort Mill. Schools there are all good and there are many beautiful neighborhoods - you just won't get as much yard there. But the commute to the airport area is very good.
I would check out Lake Wylie in SC. The school syster (Clover Schools) is highly rated, lowest tax rate in York County, 10 minutes to the airport, 25 miinutes to downtown Charlotte. In your price range I am sure you can find what you are looking for (basement excluded). You can check out what is available on Allen Tate Family of Companies as they seem to have the best way to search and the most current information.
You will love it in Charlotte or the surrounding areas. I am moving back there after surviving in richmond va for a year and a half. I miss the clean uptown and all the city has to offer. Try Tega Cay in SC, it's only a 20 min. or so commute to uptown, and the taxes are lower! All in all, you will love it there. Good Luck!!!
Hi, I just registered at this web site...cause everytime I search in Fort Mill SC I directed to this web site. Anyway, I moved here a year ago with my family.
