I'm just curious about where people are buying turkeys? Are you buying the regular grocery store turkeys? Fresh or Frozen?

I'm trying to find somewhere that I can place an order for a fresh turkey around Charlotte that isn't pumped with brine and is all natural.

Thanks,
Jake

Was actually thinking of going out and shooting mine, lol.

But Harris Teeter has a GREAT deal until Tuesday on frozen butterballs - .39 cents a pound!

The .39 a pound is as long as you spend $40 on other groceries (before coupons). Which still is a great deal. Since its just my SO and I for Thanksgiving, we usually just get a 3lb turkey breast. We got one from Walmart last year for super cheap, but noticed the other day that they're not carrying them this year. So I was thinking of getting a small whole Turkey this year from Teeter... Would end up being about the same price if I can find just the breast somewhere, and I can use the leftover Turkey for plenty of other stuff.

I'll probably get the free frozen Butterball turkey from Ingles. I used to like to either get a fresh Shadybrook Farms turkey & grind & freeze the raw turkey & then make soup with the carcas, or get a free ham & make bean soup & freeze it, then buy a cheap chicken to cook for Thanksgiving. I don't have those options here, so I'll get the frozen bird & cook it, then freeze up most of it for future use.

Cannot beat the .39/lb price at HT.....already got the 22 pounder for 10 guests on Thanksgiving...

(unless another grocer matches which I'm not sure....can someone advise on that)

Earth Fare sells fresh turkeys. I just stopped by the Southpark location and ordered one. I'll pick it up next week. Hope this helps.

Definitely check Earth Fare and possibly a local butcher. Butterballs and the like may be great deals this time of year, but check the ingredients. They are not just turkey - all are injected with sodium filled broth and enhancers. If you're sensitive to sodium and preservatives, a fresh turkey is the way to go.

I used to get the Shady Brook Farms fresh turkey all the time. Last year I got the Harris Teeter brand fresh turkey, it was excellent, all-natural.

Food Lion has the frozen turkey for .39 lb as well, although not Butterball if that matters to you. You must buy $35 worth of other food.
