went to uptown last night for about 4 hours (first time going out "downtown" since i moved here) parked at a deck between 5th and 6th just before brevard. board noted that it was $5 event parking. i think this is great. i get my ticket and park. i notice on the ticket that there are no attendants at this lot, please pay at machine. that was weird to me, but fine... and put $5 aside with the ticket, in my purse. i go to pay and my bill is an outrageous $20.
did i miss something, and the $5 event parking means $5/hr? or did i get screwed.
In addition to the $5 "event" parking, the hourly rates should have been posted. Doesn't sound like there was an "event" being held, so why would you expect to only pay $5?
lanigan- would the time i entered be important b/c whatever "event" may have been over? otherwise, i'm not sure why this would be important.
hooligan- i have no idea whether or not an "event" was being held, or what technically constitutes an event. why would i think one wasn't being held if there was a placard? there were a number of parking lots/decks that i noted had "event" parking. i chose a deck near where i wanted to be. i don't know how it is in charlotte, but where i come from, event parking is noted only when there is an event. i did look at the charlotte parking website, and the deck i chose is listed as $5 max on weekends. does friday night not constitute a weekend?
rather than degrading me, perhaps you could offer a suggestion as to where to park when going downtown.
I would suggest parking at Seventh Street Station or the parking deck behind the Dunhill Hotel across the street from Discovery Place. Both offer $5 parking on weekdays after 5pm and the weekend.
Here's a link to a nice website that provides details on where to park Uptown.
LOL Degrading you? I simply asked what would lead you to believe that the "event" rate was in effect.
As to suggestions on where to park, I don't know. I typically just park near my destination, as you did, and take note of the hourly rate and max daily charge.
The parking lot behind Breakfast Club, across from the arena, is $5 a day. There are no attendaents. There's a little stand in the middle of the lot that takes debit and credit cards. You punch on your lot#, swipe your card, put the receipt on your dashboard, and you're done. Parking $ has fallen dramatically uptown in the past year.
