Hi all, my husband and I are looking to relocate (originaly from MA). We are looking into moving to Charlotte, any advice on housing, nursing jobs, information technology would be very helpful. Also security and tolerance are top priority. Thank you for your input

The major hospitals in the area are Presbyterian & Carolinas Medical Center. There's also Levine Children's Hospital. I'd look there 1st for jobs. You can also look at the Charlotte Observer online to see the want ads.

Good Luck!!

You might want to check here for openings. They usually have a cross-section of jobs. http://www.caromont.org/

IT jobs seem to be picking up nicely. I have head hunters contact me at least weekly, and my specific skill set is very specialized.

Make sure you guys are on dice.com, careerbuilder.com, monster.com, and if possible get a local cell phone (with one of the CLT area codes) to put on the resumes. Gives you more of a "local" feel.

I saw a significant uptick in calls when I got my CLT cell phone. It's not lying: you still say you are relocating to CLT, just not there yet.

Good luck!!

That would depend on where the jobs are.

For instance, CMC has hospitals all over. If you got a job in Shelby or Kings Mountain, & your husband got a job in Uptown, you'd be looking between, in Gaston County. If you both got jobs in South Charlotte, then you'd be looking there, etc..

You'd want to plan for at least $950 MINIMUM in Charlotte for a 3 bedroom house - though most nice ones in the better areas are going to be $1100 and up. There aren't a lot of 2 bedroom homes around, or did you mean apts?

Actually, there is a fair amount of 2 bedroom housing west of Charlotte, but they should get at least one job before looking for housing.

Yeah, should have said she should look in Gastonia if she wants a two bedroom home - they are not many in Charlotte, and those that you would find wouldn't be in very good areas most of the time .

All of the towns out here have them. Some are mill houses & some are newer. However, that doesn't help if she gets a job at a hospital someplace like Monroe.

On the other hand, we've had so many of these threads from medical people & the hospital with the most openings is Gaston Memorial. (since everybody wants to work at the hospitals in Charlotte)
