I'm not a big hunter/fisher either, but imagine the amounts of people it will bring in!
If you thought southridge had bad traffic now! LOL
With Cabela's going in up there, we might see some other regional chains moving in! We could become the regional shopping center, we are supposed to be!
Now that is a good development for Charleston. And, yes Cabella's did result in a major increase of retail development near Wheeling, but a lot of that is related to proximity to Pittsburgh. Still, this is probably the best news for Charleston in some time. That's great to hear.
They also have a store on I78 about 60 miles from Harrisburg, but to have two of them in one state is amazing. It is also a tribute to the sportsmen of the state. Their stores are incredible. We're too close to the Wheeling store to get one here in Morgantown. The hope here is we will get a Gandor Mountain.
A note of caution... Is the store located within the Charleston city limits? The reason I ask that is because the Cabella's development in Wheeling ultimately killed the downtown area, as retailers from downtown moved as quickly as possible to be near the new Cabellas, located outside of city limits. It was a boon for Ohio County, but a detriment for the city proper.
I'm trying to remember... is that location on the Putnam County side of Charleston? If so, and if development takes place around the place as might be expected, it will be an absolute disaster for the Barboursville Mall since it will draw heavily from the population in the Putnam area that normally shops there. That happened in Ohio County and it caused severe damage to the Ohio Valley Mall in St. Clairsville.

The store is in city limits. Most people think that it is in SC, by actually it was annexed by Charleston at the same time SC annexed Trace Fork.
This will be a good thing though! Bass Pro would have been nice!
This is great news! We have been hoping for a Cabela's out here in the eastern panhandle. The closest one is in Harrisburg, PA and the second closest is Wheeling. I feel that it would be a huge commercial draw to have a store in the eastern panhandle as well since there are no Cabela's in the entire DC/Baltimore region. Hopefully the new store in Charleston is as successful as the one in Wheeling. -mmccul
Well then, financially it won't damage the city government but it will hurt the downtown mall and merchants.
It really won't hurt downtown or the mall that much because the shopping there is more "urban" then out at southridge! If anything, it will hurt Gander Mountain that is located in the same plaza.
