Looking at Summerville as a possible place to retire. We absolutely do not want a subdivision, we would prefer a couple of acres out by ourselves but with good access to Doctors and a hospital. I'm willing to drive to get to shopping, events, dining, etc. Any ideas?

You'd probably want to look at Goose Creek or Ladson. Two acres in eastern Summerville (closer to most medical) would be expensive and rare. Acreage of that kind in Summerville and affordable to most people is to the west, and would be a considerable drive to everything, especially doctors.

I live in Ladson in the Spencer Creek Woods Subdivision. We are just minutes away from everything. Really!! Either NW to Summerville or SE to Charleston. About 10 mins to Summerville Hospital or 10 mins the other way to Trident Hospital. Only 30 mins downtown MUSC hospital and something like that to St. Francis.
But if you want acreage, you may need to go on the other side of Summerville. Or Caine Bay. From what I heard they are building two new hospitals that way.
Summerville and points NW are the growing communities.
We moved here two years ago from Woodbridge VA and love it here. Am originally from Albany NY and they can keep all the snow and cold.

I've been through too many go-go mentality financial crashes to place too much belief in this. It's seeming almost too go-go around here lately.
I see Summerville as a town. A real town. It will always be here. Its local families and people will be here.
If it grows, it grows, but quite frankly, it's only going to get as huge as you believe because of what goes on in Charleston and the country's economy in general.
I'm sitting back, supporting my new adopted town, the people I know who've grown up here, the people I know who have move here as I have, and will wait to see what happens next.

I think Minkey's idea of the Goose Creek area might be on target but you'll need to give us an idea of what you're looking for in the way of a house and what your budget is before we can give you better direction.

What's your budget? If willing to pay for it, there are plenty of options. For instance, the original Pinehurst Tea Plantation house is for sale on a little over two acres in a really nice area with no HOA a mile south of Azalea Park.
