Moving to Charleston from the Raleigh area. Looking for single family home in an older more established neighborhood with trees, etc. 2 elementary school aged kids. Not interested in a cookie cutter house on 1/10 acre. $175-200K range. Any neighborhood/area suggestions?

I think there are some neighborhoods/areas in West Ashley that would work for you. James Island and John's Island would also be possibilities. You'd have more to choose from in the Summerville areas though. It depends on how close you'd like to be to work.

Whitehall in North Charleston fits your description perfectly. I think there are homes as low as $175.000 at this minute .

Where is work? It's a good idea to mimize your commute.

Summerville is the BEST! (imo) I have lived in Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Moncks Corner and now in Sumemrville. Dorechester Co Schools are highly respected and Berkeley Co schools are awesome as well. If you have any more specific questions about any of the above, I'd be happy to answer!

The commute will be to MUSC and not at typical rush hours.

Summerville seems far to me, what is the commute to Charleston really like from there?

Whitehall North Charleston borders Summerville and it's 30 minutes to downtown, straight shot down Dorchester Rd and i26 and you are there.

It depends on what time of day you are going downtown....

If you are going at 7am, it takes approx an hour to get from exit 199 to MUSC, If you are not driving during rush hour it takes about 30 minutes between those two points.

I'm moving there as well and am looking highly at Summerville. How are commutes into town? I actually work from home but have family in town so I don't want to be too far out. Also looking for very family friendly as I have a 2 year old. Thanks!
