Hi
We just finished a really enjoyable trip to Charleston, Greenville and Asheville. We focused our house hunting to Mt Pleasant, particularly Daniel Island, which we really liked. However, I now think that we should have looked more closely at James Island.

Are there any communities on James Island that are comparable to Daniel Island?

I can't think of any James Island communities that feel like Daniel Island but there are others on here that would know more. I just wanted to point out that Daniel Island is part of Charleston, not Mt. Pleasant (which is its own town). Part of James Island is also part of Charleston city. This can matter for tax purposes, schools and such.

I also can't come up with anything that is 'comparable' to Daniel Island (Company). The similarity is much easier to find with Mt Pleasant.

Is there something else you thought with considering James Island? Close to beaches, lower cost, etc?

The main reason for considering James Island is easy proximity to horse stables on Johns Island

There are plenty of high end horse stables in and close to Mt Pleasant and Daniel Island....particularly in Awendaw, Wando and Huger..

If stables are important to you ... there is an equestrian real estate community on the Awendaw/MTP border just off 17... fully equipped and quite nice. I cant recall the name for sure ... Wando Farms comes to mind tho.

You won't find anything like Daniel Island anywhere else in the Charleston area. It's a whole town, not just a subdivision, which is part of what makes it so special. It's won all sorts of awards for planning and is one of the top Master Planned communities in the country.

We lived there for 1-1/2 years when we first moved here and loved it. It has a great community feel, and just about every convenience you need for daily living. It's a perfect location with beaches, airport, Mt Pleasant and downtown Charleston @ 15 min away from DI. You can retreat to the relative calm of DI, but you're just a short ride to more "action" if you want it.

Because it was developed from scratch with a great master plan, there are no "bad" or run down areas. It's the safest community in the area.

How much is the HOA in your neighborhood? I saw some townhomes in DI and HOA is $400 or more per month. Which neighborhood in DI that does not have HOA or very reasonable HoA, do you know?
