I'm very pleased with all the information provided about relocating to SC. My husband and I have been discussing the idea for months. We're sick of the winters in the north.

Summerville sounds like a wonderful place to relocate family... but what about a business? How is construction doing there?

BusyMom5,
Sounds like we are in a similar boat. I've been doing extensive research on the construction market in Charleston. I've found that the market has slowed somewhat but nowhere nears as much as much of the country. Everywhere, construction is slow during the months of Jan & Feb with things opening up March or April. The residential market is being slowed not only by the current state of the mortgage industry but also by the fact that the people wanting to relocate can't sell their current homes. My husband and I are even offering our place below market value, just to get out. There is very little slowdown in commercial construction as it is trying to keep up with the current population.

A great resource I have found is the Charleston Business Journal. Take a moment and look at their most recent headlines and you will quickly find a still strong economy with committed future growth. Hope this link works!

I'd love to hear what you have found out. What type of construction?
BTW, one recurring comment I've heard from the few in the industry I have talked to tell me that Quality is a very large concern. That may come from the leftovers from Hurricane Hugo repairs and the short influx of immigrants coming in tryng to call themselves contractors..
