Question About Smart Phones (Verizon, iPhone, ATT, problem)

I've wanted an Iphone the day they came out, but I can't afford one. Well the problem isn't actually paying for the phone itself, it's the data package & stuff I'd have to pay every month.

But my question is,

Does the voice plan and a data package for most smart phones cost the same as an Iphone?

I want to be able to go on any site with the sp.

NOTE: I have Verizon.

The cost of the voice and data plans are the same no matter which smartphone you get.
