(Mashable) -- If you needed more proof that texting is on the rise, here's a stat for you: the average teenager sends over 3,000 texts per month. That's more than six texts per waking hour.
According to a new study from Nielsen, our society has gone mad with texting, data usage and app downloads.
I can believe it. Our neighbor's kid racked up 10,000 SMS messages on his phone, about three years ago.
Everyone knows that SMS has replaced the old "passing notes" scheme in the classroom. I have even seen teens TXT one another while they were close enough to have a verbal conversation.
E-mail has made the letter writing a lost art, and now SMS is replacing another means of connecting with others at a more personal level. I send a lot of messages myself (appropriate to my age bracket, according to the cited study,) but I still hit "Send" for a conversation that would require more than 2 TXT message exchanges. I have a hard time believing that a 10 minute conversation could be completed quicker via. a SMS exchange.
