I live in the same city as Maya Angelou, long-time author, poet professor..... her books and/or poems are compassionate and full of finding gratitude everywhere etc.
OK: twice I have been behind her in line-once at a store, once at the airport.....she was SO VERY RUDE both times to the counter person...I asked a friend who lives near her about this and reportedly she has a well-known local reputation of a I-am-better-than-you-and-rich-too attitude.
I was saddened/disappointed when behind her those times .....the public personas some celebrities present can be oh-so-different than private ones.
Ted Danson, on the other hand, was a relaxed funny guy on the set of a movie in which I was an extra. He hung around and joked and chatted with the extras like a regular guy and freely gave out autographs.

Nice to see some of you had positive experiences!
not surprised-at all!!! Anyone with such close ties to Queen Oprah would have to be the way you described her to be. Birds of a feather......
I've ran into Antwan "Big Boi" Patton of Outkast twice. Once at a concert (not his own) and once again at a "package" store. The first time he was cool. The second time he scowled at me but at least did the head nod "wsup" thing. Nas kind of scowled at me too. That's what rappers do I guess. I met the woman that played the original Marsha Brady and Robert Townsend at the bookstore I once worked. They were both very nice.
