We had it done on Grady many years ago and he lived to age 19. I am sure that there have been many changes in this type of treatment since 1990, but after his treatment, he was always hungry and lost lots of weight. I think that he was 10 or 12 when he received the radiation. Make sure to ask the specialist what to expect. Grady had to stay at the specialist's facility for about a week so that they could monitor him. I believe radiation treatment for cats was fairly new at that time. Good luck to you and your kitty.

Hello- How did it go with your kitty and iodine treatment? I'm looking into it for my 14 year old cat and can't find many real life testimonials. Hope all went well with you and if you have any suggestions.
Thanks-
Maria

Yes,our furbaby had that done a couple years ago at age 16 with wonderful results. She had lost a lot of weight before the surgery, but afterwards she gained weight back to where she should be for her age.

Obviously, the treatment is different now because ours was the opposite. She was always hungry and had lost a lot of weight before the surgery. After the surgery, she had more of a normal appetite and gained her weight back. It did wonders for her and definitely prolonged her life. She had it done a couple years ago at age 16.

I had it done to my cat when he was 14. I had a very positive experience even though he was gone for 11 days - the vet who did it kept cats so long so they could be released with no restrictions on handling/poop scooping/etc.. I think if I did it again I'd look around for someone who released sooner, but radiation is scary and I don't know if I'd be able to limit my exposure to my cat to 10 min./day (or whatever they recommend). It was hard to be separated and 11 days is a long time.

We had it done 5 years ago for Gizmo. He'll be 16 in a couple of weeks. We had very positive results. We had to go to Delaware to RadioCat and they kept him for only 3 days. We were given instructions regarding the litter disposal and interactions with the other cats. I'm so glad we had it done. Gizmo runs around like a kitten now! It cost $1100 but it was worth it.

My cat had it done about 2 years ago - best $1000 we ever spent. He had an extreme reaction to tapizole and radio-iodine or surgery where the only two options available.

He is at a great weight now and extremely happy. He will be 16 this year.
