I am bothered by the fact that most commercial dry cat foods have so much fillers (corn gluten, wheat, etc) that really are not good for cats. I realize that even the more expensive brands such as Science Diet have way too much fillers. What is the best dry cat food in your experience?

Our cats (and our neighbor's cat ) love the Blue Buffalo Spa Select dry foods. Our kitties prefer the Chicken and Brown Rice, while NeighborKitty has an affinity for the Salmon and Brown Rice.

There's no corn, wheat or soy; we're trying to keep our cats away from corn products because of the problems and allergies the corn can cause. It's hard, I'm telling you ...

If you go to the Blue Buffalo website, you can request a free sample.

Plus you get these cool kitty trading cards in every bag.

There are some great grain-free brands available. Wellness Core is what I prefer, but Merrick has come out with one called B.G. (before grain) that is good and comes in salmon, chicken and tuna flavors. My cats like both brands.

Blue Buffalo is a great food along with many others that are truly premium foods.
The healthier you go the healthier kitty will be for now and for life. less health problems etc. esp. Kidney disease- cats and dogs get it so much because there is so much in the pet foods. many cases of this disease and many other diseases could be avoided with proper nutrition.

You are very right to say that much of the pet food today has fillers and just plan crap in it, including many chemicals.

The Pet Food Industry is just that. An industry to make money, they care about their profit and that is all they care about. There is absolutely no regulations of our "babies'" food, hence the toxic pet food of March 2007, and that is just one major one that we became aware of through the public eye.

Anyway, I only feed wet/canned cat food to my girls. I feed 2x's a day. They do great!!!
I do also cook for them with planned out recipes from a few natural pet/cat health books that I have. Let me know if anyone is interested in knowing more about these books and I'll pass on the info!

They do NOT get the same food each and every day. They eat a few different canned foods.

here are a few great food brands for kitty and doggies too!!!

Halo
Wellness
Solid Gold
Blue Buffalo
Innova
Wysong

check their websites too.

I have researched much on this subject and I feel that I may know too much for my own good cuz I just want to go and let everyone know what their pet food is doing/not doing to their pets... and how beneficial nutritious food can be, ... but I can't do that for fear of sounding too pushy...

So, If I am ever saying too much just tell me to back off... but I'll definitely offer suggestions if you'd like...

whew... sorry for the drawn out message....

Thanks all. I'll try those you recommended. I have a kitty that has had kidney issues, so I am trying to find a right food for her.

Yes, I definitely have to agree with you on selecting good quality, premium foods. And there is even a range of quality in many of the well-known premium foods.

I am not familiar with Halo or Wysong brands, but the other brands, especially the Solid Gold and Innova, are very high quality pet food brands.

I have to agree with this poster, too, that it is so hard not to "preach" to other pet owners to take care of their pets and feed them well.

I prefer Meow Mix. Less bone marrow seems to gather between my teeth than with the leading brand.
