I decided to check out some vets in the area (I am close to Brick NJ. No comment on the area, I'm keeping this to my pets. Any office in/around Brick will work, let me continue) - our little cat is about 10 years old and has been having "sporadic" eating. For the last day or two, she is acting as if her mouth hurts. We have three other cats that eat just fine; beginning to be concerned about our little one.
She also "stinks"
(probably due to something making her mouth hurt, she does act like she wants to eat and sometimes even takes a few bites of wet food, canned.)
She can't chew dry food.
So, because I'm working now.. are there any low cost. Low cost. LOW COST vat vets in or around the area that can actually help my cat, maybe clean her teeth?
My Mom thinks they will want to REMOVE teeth that are infected, my cat does act like her mouth is sore..
Any recommendations as to a good vet that won't cost like $1000?
^^^ What NYC said. Check with local shelters to see if they have a clinic.
FWIW, dental care in animals has gotten quite expensive, especially if your kitty needs extractions, and it sounds like she might.
"Gotten" quite expensive? Like, from what to what?
She had been improving in eating wet food, but over the past couple of days I am becoming concerned.
I was debating taking them to Faith Veterinarian in North Brunswick.. apparently there is a place in Lakewood too.. the Faith place has MOSTLY good reviews, some say "they only want your money"..
Yes, there's a high likelihood she needs extractions. Anyone that would let us do a payment plan.
And I'd get mad if they suggested euthanization.. "why would I even think that?" I mean.. what do they suggest when they think it will be a big bill?
I say again, kitty wants to eat but presently its between the place on New Hampshire Ave in Lakewood and the N Brunswick place.
Money is tight but now Kitty needs the care.
And yes we give to the ASPCA.. What about the Monmouth County places? (I can't stress this enough, Key is Low Cost and I see the Faith place in N Brunswick is supposed to cost less than other places.)

A few years ago, I paid around $270 for a dental and two extractions for our calico (about 9 pounds and she was around 9 years old).
Last May I paid around $475 for the same--same weight and she was almost 12.
We live in SE Wisconsin, and I know there are variances in prices everywhere. A friend of mine uses a vet clinic that is about 25% higher, for instance.
If your kitty isn't eating, things must be quite severe. Cats hide pain quite well.
I'd read reviews. Some vets charge a lot, some are reasonable. I'd start with an independent vet, not one part of national chain. My guess is that they will not clean/extract without a blood panel since the procedure requires sedation. (There is a thread about a vet over-sedating a dog from a few days ago.)
A friend had a cat who had mouth cancer. Needs to be checked out.

Well, I was looking over my cat's last cleaning/extraction bills last night. She's had 12 teeth extracted over the past 6 years, starting in 2015. Her vet and I decided last week to take her last 3 remaining major teeth, 2 pre-molars and her last canine tooth, out because they, like the rest, are inflicted with FORL, and it will only get worse over time.
The one thing I am questioning from the estimate they sent me on Monday is why am I being charged $300 for a cleaning when the only teeth she'll have left will be the tiny incisors in the front. Also, I paid $80 and $105 for previous cleaning procedures when she had more teeth to clean. Same vet practice; we've been going to the same place for the past 6 years.
Your cat is probably in great pain. They don't show pain until they are in agony. Not eating, her condition will go downhill rapidly. She is suffering now. Please, just get her in to see a vet.
