Been suggested to try it.. I thought I heard bad press re it but unsure now if it was real or am losing my mind & dreamt it, hehee.
So, anyone have anything for us, good or bad, to help add yet another protein into kitty rotations from healthy foods? I prefer raw but canned is as close to it as you can go minus the raw, haha, obviously.
At this point any healthy food -- a cat will eat -- is THE best food for that/your specific cat.
The best food for our cat is whatever he agrees to eat. He's quite picky. Ziwipeak rabbit and lamb was his favourite for years until one day he said no thank you and refused to touch it. If I remember correctly, it's a good food, perhaps a little high in fat. It used to be quite expensive, perhaps because it was imported from New Zealand - not sure if this is still the case. My friend feeds it because her cat is allergic to many proteins, especially chicken.
It's still quite costly. It's not perfect by any means, (with chick peas instead of peas) but they do now have single protein options and New Zealand does not have GMO yet so the food at least is free from GMO contamination. I know because I wrote and asked a while back.
The website also has the complete analysis posted in pdf form. Very useful.
What of raw; Primal vs Nature's Variety medallions? Or Wysong cans?? If no to all 3, then I guess I have to either enforce more strongly, the S&C Selects, or try EZ. I'll choose the former 1st.
The S&C Selects chicken is approximately 2.16% phos on a dry matter basis (DMB). I only know because someone else asked them, then did the DMB calculations, and passed the info on to me. I don't have the ratio for DMB, but 'as fed' the Ca:P ratio is 1.55:1.
Ziwi Peak chicken, phos is 1.46% DMB. Ca:P ratio (as fed) is 1.16:1 (they don't show DMB number)
EZcomplete fed with a rotation of meats phos is 0.9% DMB. Ca:P ratio (DMB) is 1.2:1.
Looking at the Primal website the bone content is 10%. That is considered too high for most cats by many raw feeders. They offer the info that the Ca:P ratio is 1.52:1 but that is as fed, without the DMB, comparison is meaningless.
NV Instinct does not offer any information about bone content or phos levels. You will have to write to them.
As you know of course, feeding a rotation will help, especially if some of the rotation is kept on the lower side. Bone heavy commercial raw products CAN be diluted, there is a formula to follow though. If you are going to do all that work to dilute bone content though, it would be easier to just use EZc.
