While I can't advise anything regarding an FIV kitty, I can suggest an over-the-counter supplement that might help. Our Benny has been on this for a couple of years (he's 19 and tends to be borderline anemic as he's gotten older). It's called Liquid-tinic and I buy mine on Amazon. It's a liquid that I add to wet food.

You may be able to give this for a few weeks to increase his iron levels.

But, please ask your vet first before using.

Ty Rene as per usual.

I now have his recent bloodwork in front of me. I did not yet last nite.

To clarify the 22% value, is his HCT on ref. scale of 29.7-44.5. A bit too low.

His other value of RBC's of 4.71 on ref. scale of 5.30-10.60 is also a tad low.

These may be compatible w/ his FiV diagnosis as a feral/street cat of 4-5 yrs or indicate another ongoing prob due to the FiV/infections.

This blood work is from Benny in September. He had some done in December but I didn't take a photo of it. It was similar to this though. His numbers are pretty solidly normal.

RBC 6.87 (range 5-10)
HCT 35.89 (range 25-45)

His iron level was around 20% but has been as low as 18% in the past year or two.

We don't know what's causing the anemia in his case. Given his age and frail nature, I'm not opting for any tests. His overall blood work has been stable so we'll follow what we've been doing.

We are blessed and very happy he's still with us. If he lives to his half-birthday (end of February), I'm throwing him a little party at our house. Life is too short.
