I currently rent and it is killing me. I have 4 cats (my apartment is quite large and all cats get along). I am considering buying a cottage that is 700 sq ft (my mortgage would be half my rent). There is a screened porch and 2 bedrooms. Will this be too small for them? It is all I can afford.
My other option is stay in my apartment and get a 2nd job and then I would hardly ever see them.
Snap it up. Plenty of room there, plus the porch. You could even erect a cat proof outdoor enclosure for them in your own yard. Just ensure you have adequate elevated space, and enough litter boxes. Be aware that it will take them time to adjust to the move.

I sleep in the living room because it is cooler and all the cats choose to sleep in there with me, instead of in the bedrooms. So I think the cottage should be okay.
Go for it! Cats, unlike dogs, don't need a lot of space. A couple of cat trees, access to the porch (secured so they can't escape), will make them very happy. Besides the porch will also provide a semi-outdoor environment for them.
My old house is about that size (maybe a few square feet bigger), and my wife and I had small dogs and multiple cats in residence for a couple of decades. They all got along quite well for the most part. When she passed in '07, we had 2 dogs and 7 cats. In the begging we let the cats go out in the yard, so that probably helped them get along in such a small house. So to be honest I don't recommend having so many cats and to have them indoor only. I'm down to two cats now, and the cat door was permanently closed in '13.
As Catsmom said, just make sure they have high places to go, and plenty of personal hidey-holes & litter boxes. You should be fine.
That's fine, my house isn't much bigger and I have never thought anything of it. They will love the screened in porch, too. Get a couple cat trees and ways for them to go up and they will be content

There you go!
