Maybe he has hairball? I read once they can cause that food / calories are not getting absorbed properly. Maybe feed him lots of hairball treats (max dose or even more) for a few days and see what happens. Our sick cat lost also weight (lymohoma). I started feeding him as many treats as he wanted in the hope of fattening him up (with Hills A/D and kibble and baby food). After a few days of treats he threw up three gigantic hairballs (dofferent days). For him it doesn’t solve the weight loss problem as he has an actual illness, but I was still amazed that he has so many hair in his stomach.
I see you already had the hyper T test? That's what I was going to suggest. I had a cat with all the symptoms of Hyper T but didn't seem like it when we were at the vet. But I insisted on adding on the test to others in a senior panel. They all came back ok except the hyper T test hadn't yet. The vet was sure all was okay. Then, bingo, the test came back and she had Hyper T.
Here's something to consider...I understand the thing nowadays in that regard is not just the free T4 mine had but the T3 suppression test for diagnosing hypert in cats that have normal T3, T4 and free T4 but still appear to have hypert symptoms.

Interesting, thanks.
Yes, we had the hyper T test in September and again in December when the weight loss happened. I don't know, though, whether it was for T3 or T4. The vet was surprised when the tests came back normal.
Oddly, I have a rare thyroid condition myself and am in fact going for an ultrasound tomorrow. Like Mama, like kitty.
So sorry to read this. We've had several with rapid weight loss, 1 diabetes, 2 hyperthyroid, 1 IBS (constant diarrhea, so easier to diagnose), 1 URI which caused chronic stuffiness and loss of appetite, and one with lymphoma. Fingers crossed they figure out what's wrong and it's something easy to fix.

Then ask for the T3 Suppresion test for your little one. All the best.
Were you able to bring in a stool sample today, Queen?
No. I had to go get my own thyroid scan today!
I have to take him in for a weight check later this week. I will bring it then.
Will keep everyone posted. He is eating well, but I did notice that he seems to be drinking more water. Again, a sign of either diabetes or kidney disease, neither of which shows up in his blood tests.

Yes, I have dealt with hyperthyroid, IBS (yeah, that diarrhea!), and kidney disease in the three cats whose ashes now reside in the little wooden boxes on my dining room cabinet.
People I know have suggested that it is emotional; e.g., that he is either not happy being the only cat (the last other one died in April) or that he misses me because I travel every month.
However, this weight loss mostly happened during a period when I was home for four weeks, and it started seven months after Foxy died. I was away for three weeks in August, and he ate just fine then. He adores my catsitter, and she him. It was just so fast--three pounds in less than two months.
This happened to Electra. She started losing weight and I thought, uh oh. When I brought her in, all the tests came back negative. I just tried to feed her more (since she was eating-nothing wrong with her appetite). Now, she needs fluids which I think when she started losing weight (about 2 years ago), it was the start of that. So, even though the tests may come back negative now, that can change. Please keep us informed.
