My 14yr old girl has been diabetic for 6yrs. She is actually doing quite well and can go 24-36 hrs without needing dosing. She is on Levemir. I am due to get a new script or this and usually go to Walgreen's to get it. I went online to see prices and was shocked to see how high/expensive it has gotten. With the "family" membership which my girl has had for years with Walgreen's but still price for Levemir Flextouch 5 pak pens runs 477.00. Yikes!!!

I guess I am looking for suggestions or what others do when things have gotten so expensive. She is doing very well on this insulin and do not want to change it.

Check with Costco or Sam's Club. Our Benny uses a human glaucoma med that is pretty expensive and Costco has had the "best" price. Note: By law, you don't need a membership to use their pharmacy.

I have also ordered this med from Canada at a substantial savings. The website I used is Jans Drugs. They were professional and had good service--you mail the prescription to an address in the US and they will fill it for you. If you have questions, there's a phone number on the website.

It is frustrating that drug prices have gotten so expensive for some things.

My girl Angel gets 5 units of Vetsulin twice a day by syringe. A 400 unit vial lasts 40 days ($58.00), and counting syringes & swabs I spend about $1.60 a day. I'm not familiar with Levemir... is it a liquid injectable or an oral med? Is there a reason she is on the Levemir, rather than something cheaper?

She was on Lantus but wasn't doing very well, so I switched. It wasn't too bad price wise until a couple of years ago. This year is has gone up 80.00 and I get the 5 pen pack. Maybe I shouldn't complain, it does last quite a while. It was just shocking to go looking and find the jump in price.

My Vet is not the best with feline diabetes and I don't know if I want to chance it by switching to a less expensive insulin or switching to any other insulin. She is doing so well.

I am thinking I just need to look in my area for the least expensive place offering the Levemir.

Wonder if getting cat medical insurance would help...of course that would be a preexisting condition. Sorry you have to work with the high prices...

You could ask the manufacturer for a coupon etc for reduced pricing...all that can happen is they say no.

Just for general info; Angel was diagnosed in July '17. At that time her blood glucose was 525. She started out at a high dose of Insulin (Vetsulin), and over the coming weeks we played the up & down game trying to find the right dose for her. We eventually found that 5 units twice a day was right for her, and that's been her dose for over a year now. her past 2 BG tests have been dead center in the normal range. She's been stable symptom-wise, and hopefully will stay that way. Forgot to mention that she's 15 years old as of this past August, and in good health otherwise.
