Actually he doesn't look all that unhappy to me, and he's not exactly living in a cage either. It looks like a fairly good sized enclosure with plenty of room to move around. Shame on the people that gave him up after so long, but he's probably in the best place he could be under the circumstances. Most likely he wouldn't have lasted very long in a shelter or animal control facility. A magnificent cat and I wish him a good life from here on out.
The article doesn't say why they gave him up. Maybe he got temperamental or couldn't be trusted -- but why would someone even get such a breed? Something macho? What a shame, beautiful animal. I could not give up a pet I've raised and loved for 14 years. There is always more to these type of stories.
People lose their homes and "have to" move into a place that does not allow pets. People get married to ailurophobes (why, I don't know). People get married to people who are allergic to cats. People develop allergies.
Not trying to make excuses for people who give up their cats. Just sayin' ... crap happens.
I keep thinking I should move to Savannah. Seriously. Maybe if I had, I would have room for this cat and he would not be a problem for my cat. But my cat does not like other cats.
Savannahs are expensive cats. I feel like he could have went to a breed specific rescue and been adopted quickly? I know I follow a few Savannah rescues. I have heard of Big Cat Rescue, but they deal with wild cats (obviously). Savannahs are hybrid though
Wonder if they were moving somewhere they weren't allowed to have a Savannah. I'd take him in a heartbeat
