I was there 25 years ago when it was still Leningrad but didn't see any cats...should have tried to get into the basement...
The Russians sure are fond of cats. Ever heard of the Moscow Cat Circus?
BTW Disneyland in CA also keeps a large feral colony, all fed well, neutered, taken care of, hiding during day time hours.
