Our Granddaughter was riding on I-840 this past week and sees a small kitty in the middle of the Interstate. She knew it's chance of making it across was almost nil. She stops and goes out into the roadway and rescues it. Good grief! She could have been run over or scared the cat into the traffic on the other side of the Interstate.
The kitty is fine and she plans to keep it. The kitten is black and white and about 3 months old. I haven't seen it yet.
That was an heroic thing to do! I'm so glad she did it.
Heroic or foolish, or maybe both... she could have been killed. But she loves cats and couldn't leave the kitty there. It was fortunate that the kitten was not afraid of her, let her approach and pick it up. It has a wonderful home now.
Well, contrary to the opinion of some, I think that one must perform an act which involves danger in order to be a hero. I wasn't there to observe the traffic density to see how dangerous it was, but I wouldn't have been able to sleep well for some nights if I were there and didn't tried to do something if the situation would have allowed it at all.
Yeesh. If I were her mom, I wouldn't know whether to hug her or smack her upside the head. I'd probably do both ... and then help her out with the vet and the food bills.

That's how her mother feels. That's also how we feel. Actually we're very proud of her for doing what she did. The traffic wasn't real heavy like town traffic that day from what I understand, but it was going very fast. I know they'll do 70 mph on that route. We always see dead deer and other animals along side it. It's also away from homes so we wonder how the kittie got out there. Maybe he fell from a car or was thrown out. He wasn't injured. I'm going to try and get the whole story from the horses mouth as soon as I can. When she left for college in a nearby town she left her old cat with her parents. Her old cat lived there since being picked out of a dumpster by her father 9 years ago. There were 2 kittens in the bag someone tossed into the trash, so he took them to a vet, then home to his family. They then got another kitten from somewhere.... so her old cat would not be happy alone. She was ripe for getting another kittie.
