I live in North Carolina and my entire family is in Michigan. When I go 'home' for a long period (2 weeks or more), I bring my cat with me. I am currently in Michigan for my sister's wedding. Since this is a nearly 3 week trip, I brought my cat. She takes about 12 hours or so to adjust and then she is fine. She gets along really well with my mom's dog and they play all the time.
Well, my sister's wedding is in Jamaica. I will be gone for 4 nights. I have 2 options for my cat. I can leave her here, alone, at my parents' house and my cousin will feed her and everything. Or, I can take her with the dog to my aunt's house.
I am trying to decide which will be less traumatic- being alone in a strange house or being with the dog and people in an even stranger house. I have been trying to decide which is best for about 6 months now, but I am leaving Friday, so I am running out of time!! I know neither situation is ideal.
The dog will certainly be more comfy at home and that will help your kitty settle in. I'd leave her at your parents' house. There will be only one stranger, your cuz, to deal with.
For four days you should be fine. I'd leave the kitty alone with someone coming to to check on.
