How scary, if you haven't already found your kitty I hope you do soon.

From all indications a happy reunion is in the offing. Go to areas where he's been spotted and BE PERSISTENT in calling and waiting for an answer. My cat once regularly wandered off for extended periods of time before returning home as though nothing had happened. The scariest episode was during a snowstorm, when she was outside and I hadn't seen her for some hours. For over ninety minutes I trudged from house to house through the whirling flakes, calling and waiting. My persistence was rewarded around the corner and four doors down. That doesn't seem far, but to a six-month-old kitten in a blizzard it could've just as easily been miles away. She had the presence of mind to do what far too many adult humans fail to do under the circumstances: seek shelter and wait for help to arrive. When she answered me it was from beneath the side porch of a house, out of the snow if not warm.
The one time when she'd been at large for weeks, I didn't stop until I'd printed hundreds of flyers and went literally from house to house for blocks around putting them into mailboxes. Somebody read one (having not noticed any of the public postings I'd done around the neighborhood) and was the key to our getting back together.
Once your buddy's back home safe, you might (just sayin') want to re-think letting him be an outdoor cat.

Is it possible some kids befriended your kitty and he is in someone's house near you ?

I also like the idea of checking the other place you used to live.
