If you move to Mayerthorpe, and they like your wife, they will invite you to parties and if you don't bring her they will spread the word that you are bad news and no one will hire you if you try to switch jobs or happen to get out of work and need a new job at some point. They will try to see that you are impoverished so you can't afford to leave town. They will do abusive reports to Social Services to try and split up the family, also. If SS believes the reports and runs off with your kids, that traps you in the town also, trying to stay and look responsible and doing the steps to get them back. I had one woman tell me that they had arranged a party for me with an "end date" and that the only way I would ever get out of that town was "alone and on foot with a bag of bread". Beware of really small towns like this that are near a big city, where people can live rural but still have close ties to city gang activity. They have ways of trying to pressure people into the sex trade. I just mentioned some.

Search for newspaper articles in the area where you are thinking of moving to, for reports of sex trafficking arrests. Where there is one arrest, there is more going on around. There was a sex trafficking arrest in Evansburg in 2017, a town near to Mayerthorpe. My next door neighbor in Mayerthorpe killed herself in 2017 because her husband got involved in trafficking her to a local farmer. Also, there was big cross-border sex trafficking ring arrests that included Edmonton (The biggest city near to Mayerthorpe) a year or two after we arrived in Mayerthorpe, in 2013.

"The first human trafficking charges in Canada were laid in January 2008. As of January 2016, there have been 330 human trafficking specific cases in Canada." - https://www.actalberta.org

From my experience in Mayerthorpe, Alberta, that is just the tip of the iceburg.

Stay away from the Mayerthorpe and Evansburg area.

The only gangs in Mayerthorpe are cows. It's a bloody town out in the middle of the prairies with under 2000 people on it's best day ever.

The cows of Mayerthorpe may have gotten some ideas from these thugs.

Awesome.

You know how to walk your Hong Kong cow? About a tablespoon of sesame oil and a nice high heat...

Works better as a joke when you can wok/walk it.

This post reminds me of a bizarre story a visiting former Manitoban told me about Brooks, AB. He claimed that the police let the Hell's Angels administer whatever justice there was to administer. Moving to AB makes some Manitobans lose their minds.
