Three months from now I will be making the move to California. I have visited the state a number of times but I am having trouble choosing where I'd like to live.

Criteria:

- My girlfriend lives in Studio City LA, so 45 minutes to an hour drive away would be best. Closer is fine too.
- Easy access to the beach / parks.
- Affordable rent but not in a sketchy area. All I need is a nice one bedroom apartment.

Job location?
Budget? (What does "affordable" mean?)

Studio (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/apa/1584252138.html - broken link)
You'll spend quite a bit of time hunting around for a decent place to live, so, before you sign a long-term contract for a place you don't know very well, have a look at the offers Extended Stay has these days.
Most of these are OK. Check craigslist for other areas in L.A. and then yelp, tripadvisor, or other to make sure you're in a well-run hotel. Some are much better than others.
