im looking for a place that isnt insanely expensive to live and is somewhat near the beach. something around $1000 or less a month for a 1 bedroom apartment. just a laid back town with a lot of young people. i want to go to college out in california next year. oh yea a place that has a good amount of jobs for young people, entry level jobs.

What about San Luis Obispo? It has rents listed on Craig's List for under $1000.00 and the poster could go to Cal Poly SLO. The beach there is beautiful, and it is a very nice community.

If you don't mind high crime you could move to a dangerous neighborhood close to the beach, such as inner Long Beach, Inglewood, etc. You might find cheap apartments there; safe places near the coast will always be expensive.

Rather than give you a wise crack like some of these posts how about a solution with a compromise?

North Carolina has what you want except that it is in North Carolina. FYI _ I have lived in California for 35 years both So Cal and North Cal and I left for NC. Raleigh NC was voted #3 in the USA for young singles.
If you insist on California be prepared to pay big bucks. I have attached some beach photos of NC (the water is much warmer out here and people are friendly)
Hope this helps.

Baja California... It's got California in the name... so does that count?

I rent a spacious one bedroom for $900 a month in Corona...but it sucks for young people (I am one and I am moving next month) and it's 30 minutes from the beach.
