I thought I would bring to you another 'glass half full' thread to balance out the typical whine fest going on here.
I just returned from the Northern Cal Redwoods. The Rhododendron display is awesome right now. I would say it is just past peak bloom. But there are still plenty of flowers to photograph including falling flowers on the ground in parts.
When I arrived Friday and the sun was intermingled with fog I knew it was going to be a special time. Then the beams of light starting hitting all over the forest between the redwoods. It was incredible to witness. There were times when a full circle rainbow arched around the the sun and trees. Dynamic range was the biggest challenge. But the fog really helped out.
So if you haven't gotten out of the house lately then I encourage you to enjoy the beauty this state has to offer. And if you are thinking about visiting then come on out. Just remember to look beyond Hollywood and Santa Monica for the real beauty CA has to offer. It is out there for those who are willing to venture out of the mega cities to find it.

This is great! My sentiments exactly regarding this forum.
I mean who wants to enjoy the state or talk about anything good here when we can sit back and ****** and moan about anything and everything one can possibly think of regarding CA. Isn't that what this forum is intended for anyway?
It kinda reminds me of the media in that way. Sensationalize all the cr@p because thats what the masses are drawn toward.

I used to live in Arcadia about 1/4 mile from the Arboretum. Just about any plant known to man would grow in Arcadia, it seemed to have its very own temperate zone according to Sunset Magazine. Very frustrating really to have zillions of plants to choose from.

I'm itching to get more Rhododendron pics, but probably next year. Need to plan it right. I arrived this year just as the first buds were popping - mainly exploring for other stuff.
You said this is a glass half full thread. Let me help you fill the the other half.
Below, is a redwood tree in Prairie Creek redwoods. That burl weighs 40,000 pounds - 20 tons. The trunk is slightly over 24 feet in diameter.
Got a reasonable pic of a giant salamander too.
Looks like you know a little "photography" - my stuff is mostly "photographs" with the super-amateur "s" on the end, not the "y" - LOL. That one view of yours looking up at the trees is cool, the shadow in the mist almost makes it look like the trees have some motion.
If you like huge redwood pics, my profile has the way there.
