When I lived in Calif, there were all kinds of harley davidson riders and ghetto machines with blasted mufflers that made unnecessary noise. If all of the local governments cited these ppl, they could fill the coffers up. Also, if these ppl had any outstanding warrants, they could jail them until they paid up.

Why are you stereotyping people based on what they drive? You know how many doctors I know with loud harley's that ride on the weekends. Your post is idiotic because they already issue tickets for this and why do you think that is unique to California?

I totally agree except, I wish the law enforcement would bust these knuckleheads (no pun intended for the old Harley engines) even if there was no budget crisis.

How about the jerks that blast their car stereo (just like I did with Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Floyd back in 1977 - OK I'm guilty too), when it is 40F degree outside or 105F outside with their windows open. They take pleasure in annoying people by propagating their culture.

how am I sterotyping? i was referring to the ppl who actually DO make noise. I don't care what their career choice is, only that they are disturbing the peace. I can't tell you how many Saturday and Sunday mornings when those H-D were full blasting it and ruining my sleep. Ppl who PURPOSELY remove their mufflers "to look cool" deserve to be fined and cited.

Yes, if it is against the law.

But back to the original thread, I am just as annoyed about loud noise as anybody but, we need to ask:
Is going after illegal noisy vehicles the best use of the limited law enforcement resources?

Are the revenues generated from fining illegal noisy vehicles high enough to justify the enforcement?

Could law enforcement raise even more revenue by targeting "bigger ticket" violators?

Would ticketing nickle and dime noise violators pull cops away from more serious crimes?

Both my parents ride Harleys, and since they work difficult m-f jobs, the weekend is when they go on their rides. Both their bikes are stock and yes, they make noise. Trust me, just because a few people want to sleep in on the weekends isn't going to stop them from enjoying a weekend ride.

I definitely hate it since I live relatively close to the freeway.

I say outlaw anything that enhances the noise of the car.
