The most negative thing about the place is the fact that its in the middle of the desert.Wow I still cant believe you said "PALMDALE" has a High crime rate, Palmdale is the most boring city besides (California city) in all of California that i Know of. The only plus sides is the fact that LA is only a hour away and Las vegas is only 3 hours away. There are very nice areas and there can be some bad areas. Every city has its ups and downs, No matter if you lived in Glendale, Pomona ,torrance or Palmdale. The crime rate is just as much as any other LA county city.
Yeah not so much. I've lived "near" AV for quite some time. My sister works at AV hospital - the ER. This valley has more gang related crime than South Central LA. Your description of the boredom is accurate but there's definitely more than the average amount of gang related activity even compared to the worst parts of San Fernando (ie. Arleta, Pacoima, Sun Valley, Van Nuys)

That's just incorrect factual wise. Opinion wise, eh.. .you can't say if anyone's opinion is right or wrong as it's their opinion based (hopefully) on their experience in/ at a place.

But to post up in a manner of saying your opinion is fact, is just incorrect.

Sorry.

Don't be sorry. Pull the data. I don't have time at work to troll around (more than I usually do) and do it myself. You'll see. Hospital ER treatment of gun shot victim statistics are about as accurate as you're gonna get for violent (gun related) crime. Now of course violent crime is not a measure of gang activity directly. It's sylogistic logic, but it for my purposes and for the purpose of relating the relative danger of succumbing to gun related violence for population density...AV is sketchy at best.

It's also, like many parts of LA Co, a victim of sprawl, polution (in the Summer), lack of proper education funding.

I know there are some who love the AV, but please let's be honest. The AV has become over the last couple of years one of the most dangerous places in all of LA county. The weather is terrible, hot and dry all summer, windy and dry all winter. Sure the rent is affordable, but you will regret living there as unfortunately there is little left of perhaps once made it desirable. Perhaps they can turn it around in the coming years, but it has become a dumping ground by LA county leadership for all sorts of troublesome characters. Avoid the AV if you can, you would be a million times better off in Texas or New Mexico than any place in the CA desert. There are serious problems there and the cost of living isn't that much better.

The AV is not just A hole, it is THE hole by which all other prospective holes would be compared. It is not the end of the world, but you can see it from there. The wind blows the shade out from under trees. Most places end up with an element of low life scum of say a few percentage points as the population rises. I say the AV is ten times that. I am not thousands of miles away, I have lived it, I have seen it.

I had the misfortune to live in Lancaster for many years. We called it the armpit of the universe.
If you like redneck Republicans, if you hate culture, if you love tacky fast-food places, then you will love Lancaster.

That's a near perfect description, adding the biting flies if you do find shade and the wind sand blasting the paint off your car and pitting your windshield!
There really isn't anything left between Bishop and LA that's worth moving to anymore. Carson City, Nevada has come a LONG ways(to the good) on the other hand and if I were moving back to the desert, I would place it at the top of the list. Not Reno or Las Vegas though.

I lived in Palmdale for 5yrs, thats where my daughter was born. As with any city there is bad area. As for life it was great there ! I made A mistake moving back to LA/SFV ! I grew up in Burbank. I love Plamdale. The only downfall is that htere is alot of chain resturants missing like Ca Pizza Kitchen to name one. As 2010 aot of retail is closed in Palmdale. Even empty stores in the AV Mall ! Rent is cheap, you can buy a house now for under 100,000.00 ! Food is cheaper there ! Very family like in Palmdale. Theres also jobs up there !!!! But I am thinking of buying a hime up there ! So I want to go back !

Bottom line is no matter where you move to or live, you will only be as safe and comfortable as your fellow neighbors. If our towns look trashed its because we trashed it if it appears like a dreamy place to live with the green grass picket fence and perfect shade tree in the yard its only because we made it that way. really it does not matter where you choose to reside. Things will only be as beautiful as the people in the town allow it to be. It was not a single person acting alone that caused these towns to decline it was all of us as a whole. No one cares enough to do for others anymore its all about what others can do for them.

I WAS planning to purchase a home in Palmdale. Am seriously rethinking. I did not know the gang problem crawled up there. I am a widow with two young daughters and do not want to be anywhere unsafe. I know all places have their problems but I just found out about the BIG gang and other crime problems. Actually was smacked in the face with it. Am two weeks away from signing realestate paper work. Am thinking of backing out. Please give me truthful, honest comments about the city. Really need honesty right now. Thanks for your imput.
