No problem...if you've got the dough. With land running 50K to 100K an acre, you'll need to be a multimillionaire with those kind of aspirations. Most of the agricultural land in Butte County was claimed by the almond growers many moons ago.

Your description really connects to the area where I live in, Red Bluff. Red Bluff is a town of about 14,500, where you can access schools easily and the ski park at Shasta. Redding is about 30 minutes north of town, with a population of about 80,000, a good size for your machine shop. There is a lot of sun here and at winter it gets no colder than 40 degrees. There's a theater, cheap houses, agriculture, Wal Mart Supercenter's arriving in 2008, and there's lots of events that happen here. I hope this was of some help and good luck.

Smile If you're thinking of moving from NY to CA, Think again

I would not recommend moving to North CA simply because it is quite expensive to live here, and not many opportunities, it isn't neccessarily depressed, just smallish, and areas like Chester, Greagle and the like up in Sierras are just not that much going on, even though you stay out of the 100's to 110's in the summer that can go on for 2 to 3 months.. in the valley, and they will require a lot of money to live, i'd suggest the Front range of Colorado, which im leaning towards, it has at least 300 days of sunshine a year, as do most western states, and it is drop dead gorgeous, with the Rockies at your back door, and Estes park not far away, think of Longmont, near to Boulder, lots cheaper, and you can get a LOT of house for your money, much more than you'd ever find in CA or Oregon for the price, say, 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, full basement, $170K or below, so just a thought...Also Fort Collins isn't bad, and probably has more opportunities for work, and business.
