The Santa Ynez Valley is where most of the Santa Barbara County wineries are located and would be a good base for lodging and exploring. You'll find several hotels in Buellton at the junction of US-101 and State Route 246 as well as further to the east in Solvang and Santa Ynez. I've stayed at the Marriott in Buellton, which has been recently renovated. The Chumash Casino Resort is located in Santa Ynez. There's the world-renowned Pea Soup Andersen's in Buellton if you're up for a bowl of split pea soup and comfort foods. There are a few transit services in the region if you want to take a break from driving. Santa Ynez Transit runs two routes connecting valley communities as well as the Wine Country Express that connects Buellton and Solvang with Lompoc.
