What better time to implement this policy while people and businesses are desperate to survive.

In short, California is willing to embark on a massive bureaucratic project to trace racial disparities amid coronavirus cases and to force counties to target resources based on COVID disparities,

...counties with a population greater than 106,000 must “Ensure that the test positivity rates in its most disadvantaged neighborhoods, as defined as being in the lowest quartile of the Healthy Places Index census tracts, do not significantly lag behind its overall county test positivity rate.”

begs the question: What does “equity” in terms of race have to do with slowing the spread of a pandemic?

Meanwhile, overdoses, suicides continue to increase.

“The latest CDC data show that the U.S. life expectancy has declined over the past few years. Tragically, this troubling trend is largely driven by deaths from drug overdose and suicide,” said CDC Director Robert Redfield, MD, in a statement.

Guess it goes to say, never let a crisis go to waste.

This state is truly going crazy. Between this, all the taxes, and now the reparations bill, I don't see myself staying in this state.

51 years in California and thanks to our current governor, this past week was the first time in my life I have seriously thought that my life would be better elsewhere.

I too am feeling like life in another state would be better. I love California but each year goes by with more legislation that seems to bring our states backwards rather than forwards

This looks like some right wing fake news. The opening paragraph refers to it as the Chinese Coronavirus. No reputable news source would post that.

The language isn't the point of the post, it's the executive order that is worrisome --at least to most of us. It means more bankruptcies and more local businesses going kaput. It also means less money. Did you find anything wrong with that part, or is it the part about the reference to the source of the corona virus?

In its defense, they did link right to the state's web site if you wanted to read the plan minus the color commentary of the author.

It sort of makes sense from a public health perspective that in any particular county with significant population, there shouldn't be pockets of communities with outstanding covid rates compared to the rest. It could actually skew the statistics when rating those counties within the silly color code system the state concocted. Overall a county could have the appearance of being at a relatively higher (better) tier, while isolated areas within it were in much worse shape, but not enough to bring down the overall average. That much is fine. However, it's hard not to be cynical when it comes to this state's motives for anything which employs terms like "equity" with respect to race. Had they just left it at low-income, that wouldn't elicit much suspicion because there's no denying that those areas are harder hit by the virus.

Good explanation. I'm not sure why anyone has a problem with that, and by the way PJ Media is a joke of a website

An analogy would be sending more cops to patrol Meadowview or Del Paso Heights than Fair Oaks, since there's about 10 times more crime in those areas than in Fair Oaks it would be asinine to send the same number of cops to all 3 areas.

It is mostly is fake news. They took a rather benign plan to try to address the issue of the disproportionately high number of covid cases in poor & predominantly minority areas and turned it into some kind of attack on "liberal California" BTW the 60% increase in Fentanyl overdoses links to an article about fentanyl overdoses in Georgia, I still can't figure out why he linked to that

we have a lot of local small businesses shuttering. We have enormous unemployment as a result. What does racial equity have to do with lockdowns when your state is on the brink of bankruptcy? We can't make the river dwellers, addicts, homeless take care of themselves. So it seems like it's punishing all of us for their shortcomings. I just hate to see good working citizens and local iconic business shut down and suffer like this. No politics aside, just common concerns.
