Tell that to my brain. It's not miserable here for some reason, and it LOVES certain parts of WY and MT.

Well yeah, Sylmar. That's akin to me bemoaning being a white dot in a sea of brown. Or massive numbers of 18-wheelers everywhere. Or property crime. Or nalgas-kicking Santa Ana winds (which are currently blowing like a mofo as I type). To misquote a famous film: "Forget it, Jake. It's Fontana."

I was being a bit of a troll when I said nothing but criminals and illegals around me.
The only thing correct about your post is the wind does blow more here.

This is no joke. The winds in Fontana can be a real bear. I had a trackday at AutoClub a couple years ago. It was so windy that I purposely stayed away from the wall on the front straight. I was on my ZX 12R. The AMA Course, of course. It was down right dangerous, so I retired early. Glad I did. BOTH ambulances were running almost all day.

I'll be there on the 23rd though...

LOL! Yep, that is the way it works for a lot of us...where does one's wife want to go...or stay for that matter!
Otherwise, irrespective of climate change, there are good reasons to be in CA with the weather perhaps one of the top few reasons. In the S F Bay Area there is a lot of things for people to do. It attracts so many intelligent people who want to prosper and create with many having aspirations of growing and developing personally.

Irrespective of politics and perhaps a little too much taxing by government for some, businesses that thrive here...owners and executives want to remain in this stimulating business environment with so much in amenities as well as fantastic weather. Housing to attract bright, educated and skilled employees becomes to the top of the list of priorities. How to do it is a big question. I agree with the commenter who say 40 million is maybe already pretty crowded. However, right now there is no system in place and no political will to stop the current requirement of communities to amp up building way beyond current buildable space to do so in most counties. That would push more companies to at least move major parts of their operation than are already leaving the State. It is kind of anti-American many would say.

I have friends with their houses paid for...one of whose house is on the water on the San Francisco peninsula and he still water skis occasionally and swims off his dock. Retirement is great for so many here in the S F Bay Area. Melliniums and Generation X are buying up expensive houses in our county almost as fast as they come up. To keep lower paid and medium salaried folks sufficiently housed in the County it seems there is always construction allowing for it, but according to the CA government, far from enough. So the demands for mega-structures along transportation/bus routes caused the government to give free rein practically to builders...no environmental review and no complaints accepted from the community to stop or slow down builders. The community thus is classified as NIMBY regardless of how much they actually care about their community! Well, Peter Coyote was complaining about the tremendous growth in Marin traffic several years and vowed to finally move from a place he had loved living in all these years. All in all hard to beat, but if you want a slower pace with much lighter traffic...you gotta move which I believe he did...to one county North...somewhere near Tom Waites and the Redwoods. But it is still California! For many you ain't gonna take the California out of the Californian.

Maybe they like California because they feel California has everything. If you like the outdoors, and you like shopping too, Santa Monica beach is a perfect place to relax and live all your life. You would enjoy the area just walking. You wouldn't need that much to live on. A job as a waiter to start off with until you would find a better paying job. A small apartment. Maybe share it with a roommate. Then you might want to buy a car, a not bad second hand car to get around when you get a raise. But basically the idea behind this would be the night life. And also the dating scene there. This would be most exciting for young adults. Santa Monica pier is very much an exciting place if you're a carnival goer. It would bring excitement. This thought always was in the forefront of why someone would want to suddenly move to Los Angeles, with minimum planning and basically no long term sights to reside in California, other than work itself already. It fit most low income earners budget. I think.

Sylvester Stallone doesn't. He's headed to Miami. He's gotta get out before Feb. 15th?
