What's your next landing point? What state is looking less looney than Ca. or Co.?

Primarily: MO/IL (southern third)/IN/KY/OH, maybe WI/MI/PA....just looking for something cheap to maximize financial freedom.

Will still need to make monthly trips to CO for work, but otherwise we can work remotely.

HOWEVER, a new work account may be coming through in the coming months, and if it does, it may set all of this off track and grow our income substantially, in which case I'm just going to say the hell with everything and move to Los Angeles.

Nooo, Not LA! I kid, to each their own. I've been doing a cost of living analysis between our neck of the California woods and Montana, and I'm liking what I'm finding. The only issue is jobs. My wife is looking at a way to work remotely too, that would be ideal.

I left California mostly so I could retire early. So I’m an economic refugee. Also, California is a nanny state that treats gun owners as criminals. So I’m glad to get out of there.

Just so you know money is not the most important thing in life. You’d consider living in IL or OH???

Really? I just bought a Glock 3 months ago with no issues. Perhaps the idea of a background check and a 10 day waiting period is what bothers you. So you are ok for felons and the mentally ill to buy a gun?

Absolutely. Being slave to a mortgage for the next couple of decades doesn't sound terribly appetizing. There's nothing left for us to do in CO, it's time to move on and try something new.

Yup, that's it's not a place to make a life if you're not of extraordinary means.

I've lived in California almost my entire life. I'm 59 and planning on leaving once my obligation as caregiver for an elderly parent is taken care of (she's 92). I don't hate California, I own my own home free and clear and even though I'm politically conservative I can hang with whatever Sacramento dishes out. No, I just want a new adventure and experience life in another part of the country. Thinking about moving to the South or Florida.
