I may possibly be moving to L.A. area, to work at a 3M located around there. Northridge is the plant I am most interested in. Any suggestions on where to live and how far a commute would be? Any help would be great. Thanks!

I know exactly where the 3M plant is. What will you be doing there?
What is your rent budget or housing price range?
Are you single/married? Age? Kids?
Kind of place you want to live in?

I'm 24, single, and have dog that will be coming with me. Not sure what I will be doing there, had an interview 2 years ago there when I took a trip to California, they didn't really say what I'd do. My budget is kinda in the air because I have a buddy who is supposed to be moving with me if everything goes the way it should for him. With the housing market the way it is now I wouldn't mind buying if the payment was about the same as a nice apartment, in a nice area to live. Did you use to work at the 3M plant there or live around there?

I grew up about five miles southwest of there and went to school and worked and walked around the Chatsworth area.

The area around there is mostly residential (1500-2000 SFHs) and light industrial with generic retail on the main streets. It is a safe place.

Before you consider a place to live, present it to the forum for comments on commuting, safety, fun things to do, etc.

So, you don't know what your budget is?

Forget about buying in California at 24, that is rather unusual on the coast in particular. In fact you should postpone many of your assumptions about the "timeline of life" and push them all back about 10 years. That is a key midwest/california difference.
