When it comes down to getting around in California or elsewhere, which way is the right way to go as far as transportation? Is driving your own vehicle whether it'd be a small compact car, or large van, truck, which uses gas and mileage etc.

To using a taxi, Uber, Lyft or similar services that cost money as well. Which of these methods would you think is better suited, whether it'd be for dating, relationships, or getting around for errands, work, school, etc.

I thought using Uber, Taxis or Lyft would be more costly and expensive but is it really? Or is using your own vehicle more costly? What do you think?

Owning a car is almost always more expensive than not owning one when you include depreciation and possibly financing along with routine operating costs such as fuel, insurance, and maintenance. And don't forget parking. That can be a massive expense, particularly in big cities where space is at a premium.

Ride-sharing charges can mount up quickly, though, if you're using that mode as your primary mode of transport.

If I was considering living without a car, I'd find a place to live that is 1) convenient to good public transit and/or 2) in an area where I could walk to many of the destinations I'd need to visit frequently. But those areas are generally more crowded and the housing is often more expensive.

The right way is the one that satisfies these conditions:
1.) You are comfortable with it given your needs
2.) You can afford it

This can mean multiple modes of transportation for different destinations and purposes. Why have the mentality that a person would have to lock themselves into a single one for everything?

The "right way" around here is to drive a Prius, and drive it slower than the pace of traffic, but in the fast lane, while refusing to move aside for those who wish to go faster.

Based on your username, I'd say the correct answer is to ride a magical pink pony to your destination.
