We have heard recently that they are starting up a paid parking program for the city of Pismo Beach, where until now it's been free to park at the pier and main lots in town. (We've been paying for parking in the OC beach cities forever!) I am just curious what the public opinion is about this in SLO county; are there a lot of upset residents/beachgoers who are sad that their retro beach city is changing, or are people generally resigned/aware of potential benefits (e.g., influx of money to improve downtown)?

As an OC family who is looking to move to this area, we're wondering about their new parking program's ability to effect big changes over time, not only in Pismo but that whole general area (such as new merchants, homebuilders, roadways...?) How open are the citizens to such "progress" (though maybe it's not considered progress by them).

Any thoughts on this...?

thanks

I live here and the paid parking hasn't started yet. Hard to tell how it will effect the area.

I personally don't think it's going to make a difference, the fees wont be high enough to dissuade anyone from spending a day at the beach.
