With so many folks loving and hating California, I am sure you all have favorite towns around the fringe of the State. Places you can avoid the taxes and negatives but still able to drive in for a few of the fun things such as weather, beaches, DisneyLand, Yosemite or the like?

One of my favorites is Medford, Oregon. What say you?

Gold Beach, OR is a nice little coastal town. Grants Pass, OR is another nice town in the interior. Carson City, NV and Genoa, NV are nice places. Yuma, AZ....well, never mind.

I don'tknow, it's quite a haul from Medford to Yosemite, not to mention Disneyland. And have you ever been to Medford in the winter? (lots of fog of the all day type)

There are well-off folks who commute by air from Ashland to CA just to avoid CA taxes (yeah, they're in finance).

I like California. I don't see any reason to want to move out of it, only to come back to visit it. Not seeing the logic in that. At least not for me.

I'm in Redding. That's as peripheral as I want to ever get. Kind of like living in the PNW as far as the look of the town and scenery, but with way better weather.

I'd rather be a visitor to Ashland and Medford, and come home to Redding

I have friends that live in Las Vegas purely for tax purposes. They have relatives on the California coast and don't seem to mind the drive a few times a year. It does seem odd but I have heard many stories of ex-Californians surrounding the state line. It is sorta like a medieval siege of a castle!

And, yes i had forgotten about Genoa. Lovely little town.
