Best coastal cities in California? (San Diego, San Francisco: home, employment, living in)

Hello, I would love any advice on any cities to relocate. California is at the top of my choices of states to move to. I'm not in a rush so I have time to look into everything. I am moving with my teenage son and am coming from the NorthEast so I am used to the fast pace and city life. I'm looking to be somewhere warmer, near the coastal area and hoping to find an area that has some city life. Places to walk in the city with restaurants, live shows, festivals, etc. I work in the admistrative part of the Medical field so need to also look into larger medical facilities as well. I'm not looking to move for another couple of years so any advice on where I can start looking so I can visit would be much appreciated.. Thanks so much! Also, my home itself I would prefer quieter but near a city area to be more specific Lol..

Coastal cities aren't warm unless you are in southern California. Look at the temps right now for example. Below the 30s in the nights, barely 50s in the day. That isn't warm.

In the summer, San Francisco isn't warm, few of the coastal cities north of San Diego are. They get their warm time in late summer/early fall but in summer they have the usual overcast days with fog or the marine layers.

For warmth, you need to be inland a bit, on the other side of the coastal hills. No one lives in San Francisco or most coastal cities because they are warm.

I love living in Santa Barbara, CA.

Goleta, Ventura, San Luis Obisbo are also very nice.

Does this mean hospitals? Many of the suggestions so far for the smaller cities have only 1 or 2 hospitals. If you need employment options, you would have to live closer to LA, Long Beach, San Diego.

If you want to work at a big hospital and live very near the beach and have warm sunny weather often, that means San Diego, Orange County, LA or perhaps Santa Barbara. San Diego is by far the best of those options, IMO, but people from those other localities will disagree. Quieter but near a city, means North Coast SD and OC. (but that's only quieter in a relative sense… compared to downtown LA or SD)

If you still want the coast and a great hospital but don't need warm sunshine year round, then San Francisco. 'Quieter' there means a pretty tough commute into the city by train or car. There are great hospitals elsewhere in the Bay Area, as well as much warmer weather, but the beach will be a drive at that point.

Either way, bring buckets o cash.

Many quality hospitals around there as well. But of course, not a cheap place to live.
