My husband recently got a job in California where he grew up and I am still in PA finishing out the school year. I have taught a full-time emotional support classroom for the past three years and a year of supplemental learning support classes prior to that. I tried emailing ctc.ca.org to ask which specialty area (mild/moderate or moderate/severe) I should apply for when it comes to my special education certification and they were no help. PA has a general special education certification and according to ctc to get a clear certification in either specialty area you need to have so many credits in that area, but I do not since my school gave you an overview of everything. My question is which should I go for since emotional support students fall under both categories. There seem to be more moderate/severe openings right now and I have no problem working with any of the groups of students that would fall under either specialty area. I just want to make sure my certification will transfer. Any advice on which to go for or if I CAN go for either?
