I searched Dwolla and Square up but find lots of complaints against them.

If you have a merchant acct. you're happy with, can you tell me what it is and why you like it?

Has anyone tried the service Costco advertises?

I need a new acct. for a retail shop but I also have an internet business and currently use Paypal for that but not really attached to it so willing to change.

It really depends on the average sales transaction you expect. I believe you are buying an existing business. If they have a merchant card account now, ask to see their analysis statements. Those will tell you what the average credit card transaction fee has been.

If the average transaction is $15, and the fee is a flat $0.25, you gave away 1.6%. That is not bad. If they average transaction is $5, you are giving away 5%. I didn't deal retail. The cards I did take were government purchase cards, for very large amounts. I negotiated the discount fees into the price on the front end because the dollars were large.

I'd look at the financials for the company, determine the expected annual sales, and how much is credit cards. Understand all the numbers before making a choice.

We use FirstMerchant. They're fine but expensive. (Fine=good customer service, 2 day deposits, accurate statements.) We considered PayPal but it wanted to hold every sale for 90 days. That's just bizarre, putting it politely. (Apparently, this is a common practice with PayPal. If you Google PayPal merchant services, you can find even worse stories.)
