My wife and I came very close to buying a house in Jeffersonville. Very close.

We were willing to commute to Burlington. I don't remember what street the house was on, but it was at the top of a hill right outside downtown. One day as we were walking around I thought I got an odd sniff of something. Sure enough there was a sewage treatment plant nearby. That was the end of that, I didn't want to worry about what way the wind is blowing, especially when we had visitors. Too bad, I like Jeffersonville.

When we first moved to the Burlington area, we were planning on living
North to Northeast of Burlington. We looked around Fairfax, Cambridge, Fletcher, Jeffersonville etc, partially to get more house for the money.
We found much of that area, especially Faifax and Fairfield to have smelly farms and houses with rusty cars in the yard. Bottom line, we found a nice secluded spot in Williston. Every time we drive to Jeffersonville we say, thank god we didn't buy all the way out here.

There are plenty of nice rural areas closer to Burlington and Williston.

Milton's not my cup of tea, but if I didn't have kids I'd buy there if I found just what I was looking for at a good price.

I agree with the guy who mentioned Hinesburg, Richmond, Underhill, Jericho, Shelburne, or Charlotte. I'd also look around Williston. They'll all be more expensive though.

Part of what I was looking for in my Vermont move was losing the long commute I had before I moved here.
