Hi

Just my 3 cents.

There is much diversity to be found here. We live in Viera and we love it! But that being said I would live almost anywhere around here. Just do your research and you'll do great.

I love amenities so Viera worked for us but beachside is also beautiful and from here a 20 min drive is not a big deal.

We have 2 elementary and a middle schooler and can't really complain. I found the housing here cheaper than Colorado which is where we moved from and we downsized a bit because outdoors is where we really wanted to spend our time.

Ha ha, Wardniner, you are a great ambassador for beachside! My husband is already sold.

Hi! Is Viera a town or a master planned community? I love having lots of amenities around--grocery stores, restaurants, activities for the kids. Do kids play outside with each other in Viera? Do they in the beachside communities?

Yes, my kids ride their bikes to school and are playing somewhere down the street as we speak. (My sis and I often laugh about the roving gangs of street urchins around here. Lol!

Viera is more of a master planned community but getting up there in size.
The avenue Viera is my fav place to shop. There are tons of restaurants to choose from from here to beachside, little towns to explore and lots of things for kids to do.
Kids walk, ride their bikes, scooters, etc to school. Always outside playing. Lots of great communities to choose from too.
Beachside or whatever you decide you'll be happy.

I love the fact that viera has good food! (Not much of a shopper but they have that too!)
Also the viera wetlands is there for amazing birdwatching. (And Gator watching.)
If you'd rather live in a midsize town that's a good option.
I think it will eventually rival Orlando.
I lived in Chicago for years though I'm a Floridian and loved it, but I'm so done with traffic!
The barrier islands are only so much land and then it's done. Viera can keep spreading. (I can't wait til they get a Trader Joe's.)
Also, island homeowners is $$$$ and we get evacuated during hurricanes. (Which don't threaten us often but it happens. My entire family including those in north FL were under a mandatory evacuation for Matthew. We all met up in tampa at my nephew's house. It was a great party, lol.)

As an example of the laid back beach attitude I texted my friend (we met when she sold me my house) in Tampa and asked if she'd made it safely, etc. She said "oh, yeah. We're over at the aquarium with hundreds of other beachside trash." LOL!
To this day we laugh about beachside trash. Poor Tampa didn't know what hit them!

When we decided to move here it was a toss up between Viera and beachside. As I said, either way songbirdsparkle should be pleased.

I find Viera to be very nice, but the building that is going on there now is explosive. There is a lot of Building going on now and they will soon be building a New Entrance and Exit ramp on Viera Blvd. I hope it does not get to congested. The shops at Viera are nice and you have the Walmart and Target Stores just to the south of them on Wickham. School feeding will change as the population grows and they add more schools to that part of Brevard. I do like Rockledge as it has more of a hometown feel to it. I saw that Rockledge was rated as one of the four top Retirement spots in Florida due to a low crime rate and proximity to the beaches and Orlando. The Diversity is one of the better areas in Florida. I like the fact that I can be at Jetty Park (Beach) in 25 Minutes and at Universal in less than 1 hr.
