I will be moving to Colorado soon, and have been checking areas to live.
I saw a place in E. Layayette. Can anyone tell me if that is an alright area (don't want to move into a crime invested area.)
I heard from this site that the town of Belmar was real nice, but how about the rest of Lakewood? Is that a safe enough area.
Reason I'm asking, is that I am a female, and moving alone (have a dog too.)
I want reasonable rents, but not high crime. I appreciate any info.

Default Lakewood & Safety

I am also a single female and I have lived all over the metro-Denver area...Wheatridge, Littleton, SE Aurora, Capitol Hill, NW Denver, and currently live in Lakewood (yes, in Belmar). Out of all of these communities I feel the safest in Lakewood/Belmar. The fact that I grew up just a few miles away in Wheatridge probably has something to do with my comfort level, but I have found more of a community in my neighborhoods in Lakewood & WR than in in the other areas.

I don't believe Lakewood has the Highest or Lowest crime rates in metro-Denver...but you will definatley find resonable rents in nice communities where you can feel safe...just take the time to do the research on rental complexes you are considering. There are several websites you can find in google that have feedback from people who currently live or have lived in the complexes.

Ohhh...and FYI...Belmar (and actually Lakewood in general) is very Dog friendly!

East Lafayette is not a high crime neighborhood. Its more laid back and not a pretty as other nieghborhoods and doesn't have parks for kids, but I lived there for 18 years and it is okay. Lafayette has a curfew that is strictly enforced, belive me. East Lafayette is part of Old Town and is a short walk to Public Road and all the restaurants and shops. Is also great to be close to Simpson Street and Public Road for the annual 'Celebrate Lafayette', Peach Festival, Oatmeal Festival, whatever takes place, happens right there.

You might be confused. Lafayette is a city in Boulder County (due north of Denver, east of Boulder), and Lakewood is a city in Jefferson County, SW of Denver. They're not all that close to one another, about 30 miles away, though both are part of the greater Metro Denver region.

To answer your question, Lafayette is fine when it comes to crime -- nothing to worry about there. Lakewood is also MOSTLY fine, but it's a bit patchier -- parts are a bit dodgy. Southwest city of Denver is not the greatest area and that does spill over into Lakewood, but it's mostly okay west of Wadsworth.

You need to ask this question on the Denver forum. Littleton is south of Denver; Boulder and Boulder County is north of the city.
