I am considering retirement in this Boulder area to be near daughter and grandchildren. Is it even possible to do that on approx $2000/month? I would be coming from the rural Midwest.

Boulder is often pricier than the nearby towns. Unless you need to be right in Boulder, you can save a good deal by living in any of the nearby towns like Louisville, Superior, Lafayette, Gunbarrel, Niwot and Longmont.

Use padmapper.com to see rentals in each town, but if you consider pursuing anything listed on Craigslist, read and heed their warnings about scammers; if it sounds too good to be true, it almost certainly is a scam.

If you can get along in a 1 BR apt, $2000/mo would be tight but doable. Everything else but housing is about the same price.
