Looking for a cosey neighborhood or small town closer to or in the mountains but within reasonable commute to the Waldorf school in Boulder or Niwot that is above the inversion altitude? Is there anything like Salt Lake City where you can live in neighborhoods higher on the surrounding hills and be above the smog? How far out from Boulder do you need to go to get away from the inversion pollution?

I don't know what the altitude of the inversion layer is, just that I live way above it at 8300'. It seems pretty low from where I stand.
Most of the western Boulder foothills communities are above it: Sugarloaf, Sunshine Canyon, Boulder Heights, Pinebrook, Jamestown.

Lyons is great but it's also getting expensive and in the winter from what I've heard can be a little far. Was just replying in another thread that we found better prices in Gunbarrel. You get cheaper rental prices and are just a few min from downtown Boulder yet still are in Boulder City limits. Our apartments are new (just built last year) and are affordable by Boulder standards- they gave us 2 months free when we moved in. Let us know if you move out here and we can give you our referral bonus which is an additional few hundred off which is nice
