Yes, we will be renting until we know the areas better. That's another thing.. rent prices seem to be similar to those of better parts of TX. where you can get a 2/2 apartment for around $1000. Yet, the real estate just doesn't compare at ALL.

Also, you can go through a new home builder here and get a brand spankin new home built for as low at $90k in some areas within the DFW metroplex.

Colorado is sure a heck of a lot more beautiful though, so I guess you pay the price

Yep. I lived in Austin, which is as nice as you can get in Texas, but it doesn't hold a candle to Colorado. Of course, I love to ski and hate cactus, so....

amanda - we moved from Lewisville, TX 12 years ago. The cost of living on most things here are higher - property taxes being the exception. Of course there is state income tax here.

Housing here is one of the major sticker shock things. We paid more than double for our house here than what we spent to build our brand new house in Texas. Paid even more for our house here than my SIL paid for building their huge, huge house in Fort Worth in a gated community.
