My boyfriend and I (mid twenties) are planning on moving to the Boulder area. We are on a budget and I know Boulder is expensive. Any recommendations for affordable apartments/neighborhoods still close to trails, hiking, and the downtown area?

Are you wanting to avoid the college student areas, or is that not a big concern?

This is a standard inquiry, answered many times since this site opened 5 years ago. Try our search tool with keywords like apartment and/or affordable and/or trails and you'll get a lot of quick, helpful info.

I would like to be near younger people without families but I don't want to feel like I'm in college again?

I would check Craig's List and see if you can even find anything in your price range in Boulder -- it is very expensive. The cheapest Boulder area is usually Gunbarrel, there is open space but it is not immediately near downtown. There are also a ton of apartments between Baseline and Table Mesa that might be affordable. I don't know the name of that area. It is closer to downtown and very accessible to bus.

I've lived in every zip code in town. There is no such thing as "affordable areas" really. I like Martin Acres which is not cheap but the super rich are not here either. There isn't an answer to your question really. Talk to Housing Helpers, watch the Boulder craigslist, watch the Denver craigslist, and don't be tricked in the garbage they rent close to downtown. I always wanted to live close to Pearl but you will live in student quarters or pay big.
